Ola Electric Unveils First ‘Shakti’ EV from Gigafactory: Powered by Homegrown 4680 Bharat Cells!

Ola Electric has just launched its new residential energy storage system, ‘Shakti’, from its Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. This is a big step for the company as it moves into the residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market, expanding its focus beyond just electric vehicles. Shakti is designed to meet the needs of modern Indian households, farms, and businesses, allowing users to access and manage energy more flexibly.

Bhavish Aggarwal, the co-founder and CEO of Ola, proudly announced the achievement on social media, emphasizing the importance of local innovation. He noted that the product is fully researched, engineered, and made in India, reflecting Ola’s commitment to using homegrown technology.

Shakti is built on the company’s indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell platform. The system offers features like instant switchover times, wide voltage compatibility, and high safety standards. Unlike traditional lead-acid batteries or diesel generators, Shakti is designed to be spill-proof and resilient to various environmental conditions. Customers can easily monitor battery status and energy flow, enabling them to optimize their energy usage and save costs.

The system comes in four different configurations, ranging from 1kW to 6kW, making it suitable for various applications like running air conditioners, refrigerators, and farm pumps. Charging can take as little as two hours, providing backup for up to 1.5 hours on full load.

Recent studies indicate a growing demand for renewable energy solutions in India, driven by both environmental concerns and technological advancements. As of 2023, around 27% of households in India are exploring solar or battery storage options, according to a report by the International Energy Agency. This makes products like Shakti not just timely but crucial for achieving energy independence in the country.

Ola’s entry into residential energy storage could be a game changer for many households. With clean, decentralized energy solutions becoming more accessible, Shakti is poised to play a vital role in shaping India’s energy landscape.
