Paying subscribers—like those in OpenAI’s Plus, Teams, and Business tiers—will also notice fewer interruptions and a more engaging conversational tone from the voice assistant.

According to an OpenAI spokesperson, the updated AI voice is designed to be “more direct, engaging, concise, specific, and creative.” This change comes as OpenAI faces stiff competition from other companies in the AI assistant market.

One notable competitor is Sesame, a startup supported by Andreessen Horowitz and founded by Brendan Iribe, who co-founded Oculus. Their voice assistants, Maya and Miles, have gained attention for sounding very natural. Major companies like Amazon are also increasing their efforts in this area, with plans to launch an upgraded version of Alexa powered by a large language model.

The demand for smoother and more human-like AI interactions has never been higher. A recent survey found that 67% of users prefer AI that can maintain a conversational flow without interruptions.
