Oscars 2025 Live Coverage: Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo Dazzle as Conan O’Brien Hosts! Explore the Night’s Biggest Winners!

During the 2025 Oscars, Conan O’Brien paid tribute to The Substance in a humorous way. He made a grand entrance, emerging from Demi Moore’s back—while hilariously losing a shoe in the process. As a first-time host and a “four-time Oscar viewer,” he welcomed everyone to the evening, joking that the night starts at “4 in the afternoon.”

Conan kicked off his monologue with some light-hearted jabs at the Best Picture nominees. He quipped about being called names like A Complete Unknown and Nosferatu on the red carpet, admitting that two of them were fair. He shared his thoughts on the long runtime of The Brutalist, saying, “I didn’t want it to end, and luckily it didn’t.”

He poked fun at Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist and received cheers when he announced her attendance at the ceremony. In a humorous twist, he told the audience, “If you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, remember — my name is Jimmy Kimmel.” This set the tone for a fun and engaging evening.

O’Brien also introduced new rules to keep the Oscars flowing smoothly. For instance, if someone’s speech dragged on too long, the camera would cut to John Lithgow looking “slightly disappointed.” He added he might even show old photos if they wouldn’t leave the stage.

Adam Sandler made a memorable appearance in a hoodie and gym shorts. When Conan jokingly asked him to leave, Sandler invited the audience to play basketball afterward, earning loud applause as he hugged Timothée Chalamet before exiting.

Shifting gears, O’Brien highlighted the importance of honoring not just the stars, but the “hardworking men and women behind the camera.” He emphasized how film connects people globally, saying, “The magic, the madness, the grandeur and the joy of film will be with us forever.”

In between the laughs, he promised to keep things on track, even breaking into song about not wasting time. He then introduced fun surprises, like the sandworm from Dune: Part Two playing chopsticks on the piano, and a dancing Deadpool.

As the show progressed, he humorously noted, “We’re four minutes over,” before moving on to the next part of the night, keeping the energy alive.
