This annual report, created in collaboration with the Federal Government and the Society for Planet and Prosperity, highlights how these states prioritize climate action and sustainable practices.
In a recent statement, YCS praised Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano. Their leadership has been crucial in advancing environmental governance and sustainable development. Notably, Osun State jumped from 30th place in 2024 to 6th place this year, while Kano State soared from 35th to 4th, a testament to effective governance and strategic planning.
Mannir Musa, YCS’s Lead Consultant, emphasized this progress, saying, “These milestones show that with strong political will and community-driven initiatives, resilience can flourish.” Such advancements suggest a shift in Nigeria’s approach to climate challenges, demonstrating that local actions can lead to significant national impacts.

YCS developed frameworks like the Sustainable Adaptation Audit Protocol and the Sustainable Climate Adaptation System to assist local governments in enhancing their climate adaptation efforts. They are eager to partner with Osun and Kano states to build a Climate Adaptation Index that aligns with Nigeria’s National Adaptation Plan.
