Historically, the Houthis have been engaged in conflicts with Saudi Arabia since 2015. Their recent missile strikes on over 100 merchant vessels between late 2023 and early 2025 underline their increasing boldness. This precarious situation complicates military planning, especially regarding the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford.
While President Trump has set a deadline of April 6 for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, talks have stalled, and both sides seem far apart on terms for a ceasefire. This ongoing tension emphasizes the fragile balance of power in the region and the potential for further escalation.
