GREEN BAY – The Packers have some injury concerns ahead of their game against the New York Giants. Defensive lineman Lukas Van Ness (foot) and receivers Matthew Golden (shoulder) and Savion Williams (foot) are all listed as questionable. Cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) has already been ruled out.
Van Ness has been sidelined for the past four games due to a foot injury he picked up while sacking quarterback Joe Flacco during last month’s 27-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He returned to practice on a limited basis this week. Van Ness shared, “When I went to wrap up Flacco, my foot got stepped on and bent awkwardly. Luckily, I didn’t need surgery. I’m hoping to be back soon.” His journey back has showcased his determination to contribute to the team.
Golden missed Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles but practiced later in the week. The rookie has made 23 catches for 262 yards this season. Reflecting on his return, he said, “If you’re not comfortable, you might slip up. I want to make sure I’m at my best.” This mindset highlights the importance of mental preparedness for athletes.
The Packers also took measures for veteran players. Starting guard Aaron Banks was given a rest day. Receiver Christian Watson (knee/hamstring) practiced and is expected to play against the Giants.
Others joining the Packers lineup include linebackers Edgerrin Cooper (foot) and Quay Walker (calf), receivers Romeo Doubs (chest) and Dontayvion Wicks (calf), defensive linemen Micah Parsons (pectoral) and Kingsley Enagbare (knee), and tackle Zach Tom (back).
The Giants, meanwhile, are dealing with significant injuries. Five players, including quarterback Jaxson Dart (concussion) and receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring), will not play. Safety Tyler Nubin (neck) and Rakeem Nunez-Roches (toe) are doubtful, while linebacker Bobby Okereke (shoulder) and cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee) are questionable.
Interestingly, New York’s interim head coach Mike Kafka announced that Jamis Winston will step in as the starting quarterback for the injured Dart. This change could significantly impact the game, given Winston’s experience in the league.
