The Green Bay Packers are active, even on their off days. Recently, they brought in two players for workouts: running back Michael Wiley and safety Maxen Hook.
Michael Wiley, who went undrafted from Arizona in 2024, initially signed with the Washington Commanders. He spent last season on their practice squad. After being cut in July, he briefly joined the Kansas City Chiefs before being released again. Moreover, Wiley was selected in the UFL Draft as a sixth-round pick for the DC Defenders, though he has yet to sign with that league.
Maxen Hook is notable for being a former college roommate of Quinyon Mitchell, a first-round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles. After going undrafted this spring, Hook initially signed with the Eagles. Since then, he has also worked out with teams like the New York Giants and Houston Texans. Throughout his college career at Toledo, he earned All-MAC honors four times and participated in the 2025 Senior Bowl.
Currently, the Packers have two open spots on their roster after receiver Jayden Reed and defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. were placed on injured reserve. It’s unclear if the team will fill these spots before their Week 5 bye, as they haven’t rushed to make changes recently.
In the meantime, Pierre Strong Jr., a former fourth-round pick, is the running back on the practice squad. Strong played college football with Tucker Kraft at South Dakota State. The Packers also have two safeties on their practice squad: Johnathan Baldwin, a rookie, and Jaylin Simpson, a fifth-round pick from 2024.
The Packers’ decision-making during this period reflects a careful approach. They seem to be weighing their options and considering the long-term impact of their roster choices. As teams adjust their lineups and strategies throughout the season, the Packers are keeping close tabs on available talent and how it fits into their plans.
It’s an exciting time for the team, and fans are ready to see how these new additions will play out on the field. For more on NFL team transactions, you can check out the NFL Transaction Wire.
