Palmyra Police Department Takes Action: A Community Effort to Revitalize Our Local Food Pantry

PALMYRA, Mo. — The Palmyra Police Department is rallying to support the city’s food pantry, which is at risk of losing its building due to funding issues.

This Saturday, May 24th, at 11 a.m., a fundraiser will be held in Flower City Park. The event will feature fun activities like a silent auction, a dunk tank with local police officers, and even a chance to throw pies at them!

Patrolman James McKenna came up with the idea while on foot patrol at the pantry. He overheard volunteers discussing the pantry’s building being for sale. Initially, the police sought a new location but realized the funding was a bigger challenge. That’s when they decided to host this fundraiser.

“The food pantry serves hundreds of families each month,” McKenna explained. “It’s a vital resource for many in our community.” He believes losing it would greatly impact the people in Palmyra and the surrounding areas.
