The Carolina Panthers have signed quarterback Andy Dalton to a two-year deal worth $8 million. The contract includes $6 million guaranteed and can reach a maximum value of $10 million. This agreement comes as Dalton was about to enter free agency next month.
Dalton, who is 37 years old, previously signed with the Panthers in 2023 for a two-year, $11 million deal. His main role was to help develop Bryce Young, the team’s top draft pick in 2023. Recently, Young and Dalton have built a strong working relationship, which is beneficial for both players as they navigate the upcoming season together.
During the last season, Dalton stepped in as the starter in Week 3. This was after Young faced some struggles and was benched due to poor performances. In his first start, Dalton threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Panthers to a 36-22 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Even though Dalton lost his next four games, he maintained his starting position until an injury occurred due to a car accident. He suffered a thumb injury on his throwing hand just before a game against the Denver Broncos. After he was sidelined, Young took the lead and helped the Panthers secure two wins, showing improvement each week.
At the end of the season, Dalton had accumulated 989 passing yards, completed seven touchdowns, and recorded six interceptions while maintaining a 66.3% completion rate.
A second-round pick from the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2011 draft, Dalton has had a notable career. He has thrown for 39,500 yards, 253 touchdowns, and has received three Pro Bowl selections over the course of his 14 years in the league.
