A recent incident on the Varanasi–Deoghar Vande Bharat Express has raised serious concerns about food safety on Indian Railways. Ayushi Singh, a passenger, reported that a meal served on the train caused her a severe allergic reaction. Her two-year-old son also experienced diarrhea shortly after their meal.

Singh took to social media to share her ordeal, posting a photo of her swollen face and emphasizing that the allergy could have been life-threatening. She mentioned that a doctor had advised her to seek immediate help due to the seriousness of her condition. “The water tasted a bit different too!” she added.

In response, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) stated that the food served on that journey was checked and deemed satisfactory. They claimed no other complaints had been registered about food quality or safety on that day.

Singh, however, stuck to her account, insisting that the food was the only thing she and her son consumed that day, as they left home without breakfast. “I’m glad no one else got sick, but we did,” she noted.

The situation quickly gained traction online, with many users expressing support and concern. “I’m recovering, but still on medication,” Singh replied when asked about her health.

Foodborne illnesses are not uncommon. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), foodborne pathogens cause about 600 million cases of illness each year. This incident highlights the critical need for strict food safety protocols, especially in public transport.
