Passenger Injured as Waterslide Breaks on World’s Largest Cruise Ship: What You Need to Know

An acrylic waterslide on Royal Caribbean’s new ship, Icon of the Seas, had a serious incident on Thursday. The slide broke open, injuring a passenger and causing a large hole in its structure.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean explained that while the guest was using the slide, a piece of acrylic glass broke off. They provided medical care and confirmed that the guest is now stable. However, the slide will remain closed for the rest of the voyage while an investigation takes place.

The Icon of the Seas features six waterslides in a waterpark named Category 6, touted as the “largest waterpark at sea.” This waterpark spans the 16th and 17th decks of the ship, which is also the largest cruise ship currently in operation.
