Christian Barmore, a defensive tackle for the New England Patriots, is facing a misdemeanor assault and battery charge. The arraignment is set for February 3 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. This charge follows an incident in August, where Barmore’s then-girlfriend accused him of throwing her to the ground during an argument.
According to police reports, the argument started over the air conditioning settings in their home. Barmore allegedly became angry because the temperature was set at 70 degrees instead of his preferred 68. He reportedly placed their 2-year-old child outside the bedroom and slammed the door. The situation escalated when he accused her of stealing food that she was preparing.
When she tried to call her mother for help, Barmore allegedly took her phone and cut off the call. In the chaos, she screamed for help, and according to reports, Barmore pushed her to the floor. She managed to get up, but he reportedly grabbed her shirt around her neck before eventually letting her go. As she attempted to leave with their child, Barmore allegedly charged at her but did not make contact.
She mentioned feeling hesitant to press charges initially due to threats made by Barmore, who claimed he would have his cousins retaliate against her.
Barmore’s attorney stated confidently that they expect the evidence to show no criminal conduct occurred, suggesting the situation could be resolved quickly and amicably. The Patriots organization issued a statement acknowledging their awareness of the incident and their cooperation with the NFL as the legal process unfolds.
This incident comes at a challenging time for the Patriots, as another team member, Stefon Diggs, faces a felony charge related to a different case involving an alleged attack on a private chef. Coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media’s concerns during a recent press conference, stating he views these as allegations and expressed confidence in focusing on the team’s upcoming game.
The NFL is reviewing both cases under its Personal Conduct Policy. While the outcomes remain uncertain, both players are currently eligible to play.
