Patriots Fall Short in Thrilling Showdown Against Saint Peter’s – Catch All the Highlights!

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason Patriots faced a tough game against the Saint Peter’s Peacocks, losing 10-7 at Spuhler Field on Saturday.

Game Highlights:

Saint Peter’s started strong. They took the lead in the first inning when junior second baseman Garrett Greco hit a triple and scored on a groundout, making it 1-0.

In the third inning, George Mason responded. Thanks to a fielding error, graduate student first baseman Jonny Wall reached first. Junior right fielder Drew Canody hit a single, and Alberti’s double brought Wall home, tying the game 1-1. Shortly after, Quinn-Irons hit a double, allowing two more Patriots to score, giving them a 3-1 lead.

Saint Peter’s didn’t back down. In the top of the fourth, they loaded the bases and earned a run through a walk, narrowing the gap to 3-2.

Later, in the fifth inning, the Peacocks scored three runs by sending nine batters to the plate. This surge included two RBI singles and a wild pitch, putting them ahead 5-3. They then hit a two-run home run in the sixth, extending the lead to 7-3.

But the Patriots refused to give up. In the sixth, they fought back, scoring three runs to close the gap to 7-6. Freshman catcher Andrew Raymond hit a two-run double, followed by Butler’s single that brought in another run.

Saint Peter’s added three insurance runs in the eighth, thanks to a two-run double and an RBI single, making it 10-6.

In a final push, the Patriots scored once more in the ninth. Butler started with a single, and Raymond drew a walk. Sophomore second baseman Tody Hueber then drove in a run, but despite the effort, the game ended with a 10-7 score when Alberti flew out with the bases loaded.

On the pitching front, O’Hara took the loss for the Patriots, allowing four runs in four innings. Rumberg and Knox also contributed from the mound, though Knox gave up three runs later in the game.

For the Peacocks, Paxton earned the win by allowing four runs over five innings. Both teams are now even with a record of 2-4, and they will meet again on Sunday for the final game of their series.
