Paul Pierce Arrested for DUI in Los Angeles
Former NBA star Paul Pierce was arrested Tuesday night for driving under the influence in Los Angeles. The California Highway Patrol found him asleep behind the wheel of his Range Rover on U.S. Highway 101.
Officers were on the scene for a separate car crash when they noticed the SUV around 10:40 P.M. They observed signs of alcohol impairment and decided to conduct a DUI investigation.
Pierce was charged with a misdemeanor for drunk driving. The Los Angeles city attorney will review the case.
This incident comes after Pierce’s retirement in 2017, following an impressive 19-year career. He played 15 seasons with the Boston Celtics, winning an NBA championship in 2008 and earning the Finals MVP title. In 2021, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Pierce has remained in the public eye as a sports commentator. However, his recent stint on the show Speak ended in July 2025, creating a buzz on social media about whether he would pursue other broadcasting opportunities.
Driving under the influence is a serious issue. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2021, nearly 30 people die each day in the U.S. from alcohol-related crashes. This statistic highlights the importance of responsible driving.
As more public figures like Pierce face challenges, discussions surrounding accountability and the effects of fame continue. It serves as a reminder that even well-known personalities can have moments of vulnerability.
