On October 10, Peachtree Academy’s Junior and Senior students participated in the school’s “Feeding the Hungry” project, which is part of their October Service Through Scripture initiative. This outreach draws inspiration from Isaiah 58:10, emphasizing the importance of serving those in need.
The students rolled up their sleeves at The Giving Hands Food Pantry, located at Covington First United Methodist Church. Here, they organized canned goods and other food items, preparing for an upcoming shopping distribution intended to support local families facing food insecurity.
This project continues a tradition at Peachtree Academy called Panther Day, where students from different grades engage in community service throughout the year. These activities are designed to instill values of compassion and purpose, encouraging students to put their faith into action.
With “Change the World Day” on October 25 approaching, the students’ hard work helped ensure the pantry was well-stocked and ready to assist even more families in the Covington area.
A representative from Peachtree Academy remarked, “Our goal is to show students that serving others is a true expression of faith. By volunteering, they’re not just helping; they’re living out Scripture in a ways that makes a real difference.”
Volunteer work, especially in food pantries, is essential. According to a 2022 report by Feeding America, food insecurity affects around 34 million people in the U.S., including over 9 million children. Community-driven efforts like those from Peachtree Academy are vital in addressing this pressing issue.
In recent discussions on social media, many have praised schools engaging in service projects, highlighting how such initiatives build a sense of community and responsibility in younger generations. This trend reflects a growing awareness of social issues, as students increasingly want to contribute positively to their neighborhoods.
Efforts like these not only provide direct help but also cultivate a culture of empathy among youth. For more information on food insecurity and community assistance, you can refer to the Feeding America website.
