It’s no surprise that Ohio State holds the top spot, followed closely by Notre Dame. But how did the semifinalists do? The Penn State Nittany Lions, despite losing to Notre Dame, stayed strong at No. 4. They lost their chance for third place to the Oregon Ducks, who beat Penn State in the Big Ten Championship. Myerberg felt Penn State had the edge over Texas, another semifinalist.
The rankings highlight the strength of the Big Ten and SEC, which dominate the top positions. Together, these two conferences fill 12 of the top 15 spots.
On a different note, Kent State ended the season with an unfortunate 0-12 record, making them the lowest-ranked team. Meanwhile, Purdue finished at No. 130, the lowest among Power 5 teams, after managing just one victory.
Looking ahead, Penn State is in a promising position for next season with many key players returning. They have the potential to be a top contender again.
