Pepperdine Baseball Dominates Portland in Thrilling Series Opener!

Pepperdine Baseball had an exciting win on Friday, kicking off a weekend series against the Portland Pilots. The Waves, with a record of 19-29, showed resilience and teamwork to win 5-3.

Head Coach Tyler LaTorre praised his team, especially pitcher Casey Euper. Euper had another solid outing, marking his sixth straight quality start by pitching seven innings and allowing three earned runs. His ability to control his pitch count was key, allowing him to make crucial plays when it mattered most.

The game began with Portland taking an early lead in the second inning thanks to Dakota Chun’s RBI. However, Pepperdine bounced back in the fourth. James Dell’Amico’s infield single scored a run, with Josh Woodworth and Trey Dunn both contributing by getting bases loaded.

In the fifth, the Waves took the lead after Danny Cook drew a walk, and Woodworth’s powerful hit brought two runs in. LaTorre remarked that on a good day, that ball would have been a homerun, but it still provided a crucial two-RBI knock.

The competition remained tough as Portland tied the game in the sixth. Just when it looked like the game might slip away, the Waves responded with two more runs in the seventh, led again by Dunn, securing their victory.

Dylan Stewart and Lucien Wechsberg were standout performers in relief. Their solid pitching shut down the Pilots and sealed the win for Pepperdine.

As of now, Pepperdine is tied for second in the WCC with San Francisco. The team’s commitment to teamwork and timely hitting was evident. Woodworth extended his hitting streak to 12 games, while several players contributed with multiple hits.

The Waves’ rich history is noteworthy. They won the NCAA National Championship in 1992 and have a strong tradition of success, producing 35 players who reached the MLB. This season has shown promise, with strong performances from players aiming to add to that legacy.

As fans look forward to the next game, the energy around the team is palpable, and the Waves will strive to keep their momentum going. To stay updated, you can follow Pepperdine Baseball on social media @PepperdineBASE.
