Alonso previously made waves in his rookie season in 2019, hitting 53 home runs and winning the National League Rookie of the Year award. He has a career batting line of .249/.339/.514 with standout power numbers but also some inconsistency in his average. What’s impressive is his durability; he has never played fewer than 152 games in a full season.

The Mets have been busy this offseason, aiming to strengthen their roster. Along with Alonso, they have added superstar Juan Soto, who is expected to play a vital role in the lineup for years. Also joining are veterans Jesse Winker and Jose Siri.
