Pfizer and Moderna Stocks Dip as Trump Officials Suggest Child Deaths Linked to COVID Vaccines: What You Need to Know

Shares of Pfizer and Moderna plummeted recently after a report suggested that U.S. health officials plan to associate COVID-19 vaccines with the deaths of 25 children. This report may be presented to a vaccine advisory panel that guides the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on vaccine access and immunization recommendations.

While the report raised concerns, health officials reminded the public that any conclusions drawn at this stage are premature. A spokesperson from the Department of Health and Human Services stated that ongoing reviews of vaccine safety data, including those from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), will be made public through the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

On the stock market, Pfizer’s shares dropped more than 3%, while Moderna’s declined over 7%. This drop comes as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., proposes changes to vaccine policies, including restrictions on recommendations for healthy children and pregnant women.

Both Pfizer and Moderna emphasize that their vaccines are safe and continuously monitored. They argue that serious side effects remain rare, though there has been an observed risk of myocarditis, particularly in younger males. Importantly, no recent evidence suggests that these vaccines are linked to pediatric deaths.

Experts agree on a broader public health perspective. Research consistently indicates that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the potential risks, especially in children. According to global health data, serious side effects from these vaccines remain exceedingly rare, and vaccination protects against severe illness and hospitalization.

As investigations continue, authorities emphasize the importance of scientific scrutiny. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary noted that the agency is conducting in-depth research into these claims, signaling that results will be forthcoming.

Current data from CDC indicates that robust monitoring systems have not revealed new safety concerns for children or pregnant women regarding these vaccines. Thus, while discussions about vaccine safety evolve, expert consensus remains that vaccination is a critical tool in managing public health effectively.
