Philadelphia saw two separate home invasions overnight, both ending in gunfire. One of these incidents was deadly.
In the more serious case, a man in his 40s entered a home on Griffith Street around 1:30 a.m. Reports indicate that he forced his way inside and went into a daughter’s bedroom. The occupants heard the disturbance and acted quickly. A resident armed himself and confronted the intruder, who was reportedly holding a stick. When asked to drop the stick, the intruder refused, leading to the resident firing a shot that struck him in the chest. The intruder later died at the hospital.
Investigators found that the front door had been forced open and they noted a suspicious vehicle parked nearby.
In a separate shooting incident, a 33-year-old man was shot while attempting to break into his ex-girlfriend’s home in Parkside. Around midnight, he was found at a Sunoco station with multiple gunshot wounds. As officers rushed him to the hospital, a woman from Cambridge Street reported that she had shot a man trying to climb through her window. The man turned out to be her former partner. She claimed she didn’t recognize him at first and fired in self-defense.
The Philadelphia Police are continuing their investigations into both incidents.
