After his most recent start, Walker seemed open to the change, saying, “If I have one inning to blow it out, I feel like my stuff would play up just a little bit more.”

As for Ruiz, he joined the Phillies on a minor-league contract in November 2023 and had a solid run for a while. But this season has been rough for him, with an 8.16 ERA in just over 14 innings. If he clears waivers, Ruiz has the option to decline a trip to the minors and can choose free agency while keeping his salary.

Other players are performing better, which led to these decisions. The Phillies are looking to fine-tune their roster before the trade deadline on July 31 as they explore potential bigger changes down the line.
