The Pirates also grabbed Triston “Murf” Gray. Chosen in the Competitive Balance Round, this third baseman from Fresno State is a big guy at 6’4” and 235 pounds. He had an impressive college season with a .324 batting average, along with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs. Gray’s power is exciting, though questions linger about his defensive position as he transitions to the MLB.

Dan O’Dowd, an analyst at MLB Network, commented on Gray’s aggressive hitting style, emphasizing the need for improved decision-making at the plate. He noted Gray’s potential to hit for more power, especially if he learns to elevate the ball more effectively.

In the third round, the Pirates added catcher Easton Carmichael from Oklahoma. He had a standout season, boasting a .329 batting average and hitting 17 home runs. With a background of success in the Cape Cod League, Carmichael is seen as a versatile athlete behind the plate. Many believe his best years are ahead of him.
