Plainfield Business Makes a Difference: Donates 12,000 Pounds of Pet Food to Local Shelters

TR Miller Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical in Plainfield recently wrapped up its second annual pet food drive on July 31, collecting an impressive 12,000 pounds of pet food. This generous haul is set to benefit three local shelters: NAWS in Mokena, A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter in Naperville, and Wags 2 Wishes Animal Rescue in Plainfield. Combined, these organizations provide care for over 1,000 cats and dogs, many of whom come from dire situations, such as overcrowded shelters.

The drive was a creative initiative. For every A/C tune-up completed between April 15 and July 31, TR Miller donated 10 pounds of pet food. This thoughtful approach not only helped pets in need but also illustrated how local businesses can positively impact their communities.

The founders, Brian and Jim Sloan, hold this cause close to their hearts. Their late mother, who passed away in 2023 after a long battle with cancer, dedicated much of her time to volunteering at animal shelters. “My brother and I always joked that our mom loved animals more than people,” Brian shared. “We feel this is a wonderful way to honor her legacy.”

Since launching, the food drive has gathered over 23,000 pounds of food, a number that reflects the community’s support and commitment to helping animals. As the initiative grows, it highlights the importance of community involvement in animal welfare.

According to a recent survey by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.6 million shelter animals are adopted each year. Programs like TR Miller’s pet food drive play an essential role in ensuring that these animals receive the care they need.

Looking ahead, TR Miller plans to continue this vital program, further strengthening the connection between local businesses and animal advocacy. For more updates on their initiatives, you can visit TR Miller Heating and Cooling.
