Trimble and Platform Science have joined forces, completing the acquisition of Trimble’s global transportation telematics business. This exciting news was first revealed at the Trimble Insight Tech Conference in September 2024 in Las Vegas.
Now, Trimble has become a shareholder in Platform Science and will have a seat on its board of directors. This partnership puts Trimble alongside other key investors like C.R. England and Cummins, all working together to enhance transportation technology. Their goal is to expand the Virtual Vehicle platform, which is an open, connected app platform designed for vehicles and created in collaboration with major manufacturers.
What does this mean for customers? Soon, they can choose from a variety of app solutions provided by Platform Science, Trimble, and other partners, all without needing to change their existing hardware. The Virtual Vehicle platform allows fleets to access a wide range of telematics and management software. This setup works seamlessly with both OEM vehicle systems and aftermarket hardware, ensuring a smooth experience for users and developers.
Jack Kennedy, co-founder and CEO of Platform Science, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership. He commented, “Together with Trimble, we are committed to transforming the global transportation industry. This milestone allows us to deliver unprecedented choices to fleets of all sizes. Innovation is at the heart of what we do, and by collaborating, we aim to solve the inefficiencies that have long affected the transportation sector.”
