PM Modi Celebrates Diwali Aboard INS Vikrant: A Bold Step Towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and India’s Rise as a Global Defence Exporter

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with armed forces personnel aboard the INS Vikrant. He described the day as special, emphasizing the contrast between the vast ocean and the might of India’s soldiers. The sight of sunlight on the water reminded him of the lamps lit during Deepavali, symbolizing the courage of the armed forces.

Reflecting on his time on INS Vikrant, Modi shared how the experience was unforgettable. He extended his Diwali wishes to all of India, highlighting the significance of the vessel as a symbol of modern India’s strength and self-reliance. “Vikrant isn’t just a warship; it represents the hard work and progress of 21st-century India,” he stated.

He recalled how receiving INS Vikrant marked a shift away from colonial symbols. With inspiration from leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Indian Navy adopted a new flag, symbolizing a new era. Modi emphasized that this warship symbolizes India’s growing capabilities. Just months ago, its name alone caused unease in Pakistan, demonstrating its strategic significance.

The Prime Minister praised the unity and skill of the Indian Armed Forces, citing Operation Sindoor, where the coordinated efforts of the Navy, Air Force, and Army led to swift results against threats. He stressed the importance of self-reliance, noting that India’s defense production has tripled in the past decade, with domestic manufacturing of key military items becoming commonplace.

Since 2014, Indian shipyards have produced over 40 indigenous vessels, with new ships joining the Navy every 40 days. Modi highlighted the success of missiles like BrahMos and Akash, which have attracted international interest. India’s defense exports have increased significantly, and the country aims to be among the top defense exporters globally.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that securing maritime routes is critical, as over half of the world’s container shipments pass through the Indian Ocean. The Indian Navy plays a vital role in ensuring these routes remain safe while participating in humanitarian efforts across the region.

Modi reminisced about India’s response to disasters, like Operation Neer in the Maldives and relief efforts in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. He stressed that India’s armed forces not only protect national interests but also lend a helping hand globally, reinforcing India’s reputation as a reliable partner.

He celebrated India’s progress in overcoming challenges, noting a significant decrease in Maoist violence. From 125 districts previously affected by this extremism, only 11 remain impacted today. This change has allowed communities to celebrate Diwali for the first time in many years, reflecting newfound freedom and development.

Modi concluded by highlighting that India’s armed forces are essential in the nation-building process, showcasing their courage, spirit, and efficiency. With a commitment to the nation’s progress, he expressed confidence in a bright future for India, urging unity and celebrating the festive spirit of Diwali.
