Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently reflected on Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March from 1930. He highlighted how that event united India in the fight for independence. Today, Modi envisions a similar collective effort for India’s future under the Viksit Bharat mission.
Speaking at the iTV Network’s NXT Summit, he noted the current global climate filled with conflicts and instability. Despite these challenges, Modi believes India is emerging as a symbol of hope and stability. He stated that leaders worldwide are now recognizing India’s growing role in global affairs.
For instance, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö suggested that the Global South, which includes India, will influence the future world landscape. Similarly, Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of England, pointed out that India is becoming central to global economic shifts. French President Emmanuel Macron echoed these sentiments by calling India an essential partner for overcoming global issues.
Modi emphasized the need for unity among political parties, media, and industry to protect national interests, especially in times of turmoil, such as the ongoing conflict in West Asia. He urged responsible public discussions, particularly related to critical issues like the availability of LPG.
The Prime Minister also remarked on the rising level of engagement among citizens concerning India’s economic growth. He compared it to the excitement people have for cricket. “People want to follow India’s growth story as eagerly as they follow T20 match scores,” he said. This newfound pride is seen as a vital factor in building global trust in India.
India’s advances go beyond mere aspirations. Modi cited significant achievements, like integrating over 500 million people into the banking system through Jan Dhan accounts and new policies for women’s legislative representation. In technology, India is making strides in areas like space exploration, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
The COVID-19 pandemic proved India’s resilience, which Modi believes will carry the country through current global challenges. He affirmed that the government will focus on public welfare, especially for vulnerable communities, to mitigate the effects of global disruptions.
As India pushes forward, it’s driven by the ambitions of its 1.4 billion citizens, making the vision of a self-reliant and developed nation more tangible than ever.
