In a big step for travel in the Northeast, the Dibrugarh–Gomtinagar–Dibrugarh Amrit Bharat Express was launched on January 18. This new train makes long-distance travel easier and more budget-friendly for the region. The train was officially announced during a ceremony at Diphu Railway Station, showing Indian Railways’ aim to improve travel options for people in lesser-served areas.
The non-AC Amrit Bharat Express was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing. The ceremony took place under the guidance of the Lumding Division’s Railway Manager, marking a significant moment for local residents.
This train is designed to provide modern comforts without breaking the bank. It features comfortable seating, connected coaches, and enhanced safety measures like fire detection systems and a twin-engine setup. For the first time, these advanced safety elements are available in non-AC coaches, which may reassure travelers on long journeys.
The train runs weekly as Train No. 15949, connecting Dibrugarh in Assam with Gomti Nagar in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It passes through key states—Assam, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh—stopping at important stations such as Diphu, Lumding, Dimapur, and Guwahati. This route significantly improves travel links for people in the Northeast.
The launch event saw many local representatives and dignitaries in attendance, highlighting the importance of this service for regional growth. Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso and local leaders were present, showing the enthusiasm surrounding the new train service.
Experts believe that this train can really help the Karbi Anglong area and surrounding regions. It will make it easier for students, workers, and families to travel, which can strengthen ties with the rest of India.
The introduction of the Amrit Bharat Express represents Indian Railways’ commitment to offering safe and affordable long-distance travel. In 2020, Indian Railways reported a 20% increase in passenger traffic for routes that connect rural and urban areas, highlighting the potential impact of improved services like this new train.
The media widely covered the event, reflecting the community’s excitement about this important development. As train networks expand, so do opportunities for people in these areas to connect with the wider world.
