On February 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh visited the Brands of India Pavilion at Bharat Tex 2025 in New Delhi. This pavilion, organized by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), showcased over 40 leading apparel brands, demonstrating the strength of India’s domestic apparel industry. CMAI also introduced more than 100 exhibitors from small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), covering categories like Apparel, Fashion, and Innovation.
The CMAI played a crucial role at Bharat Tex 2025. They hosted panel discussions and launched new sustainability initiatives, including the SU.RE website in partnership with the United Nations and a Sustainable Supply Chain Directory with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and the Global Alliance for Textile Sustainability Council (GATS). These efforts aim to foster cooperation among brands, manufacturers, and sustainability experts for a better future in Indian fashion, keeping people and the planet in mind.
During his speech, PM Modi highlighted India’s textile achievements, noting that the country is now the sixth-largest textile exporter, with exports valued at three lakh crores (3 trillion) rupees. He set a bold target to reach nine lakh crores (9 trillion) rupees by 2030, expressing confidence that the dedicated efforts of the industry would exceed this goal.
Santosh Katariya, President of CMAI, expressed pride in presenting the Brands of India Pavilion. He emphasized the importance of sustainability and innovation for the apparel sector, noting that the attendance of Prime Minister Modi and Minister Singh reflects the government’s support for the industry. He reiterated the importance of the apparel sector in job creation and economic growth, pledging CMAI’s commitment to helping Indian brands compete globally.
Rahul Mehta, Chief Mentor of CMAI, spoke about the event as a pivotal moment for the industry. He highlighted how CMAI’s initiatives at Bharat Tex 2025 were vital for bringing together established brands and new labels, paving the way for future growth in fashion and retail. The event featured discussions on topics like size inclusivity and sustainability, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to global competitiveness.
The Brands of India Pavilion showcased prominent Indian brands, including Allen Solly, American Eagle, Calvin Klein, Sabyasachi, Tommy Hilfiger, and many others. These brands play a significant role in India’s domestic market and highlight the nation’s diverse fashion landscape.
Bharat Tex is India’s leading textile and apparel trade fair, aiming to strengthen the country’s global standing in textile manufacturing and sustainability. The four-day event gathered industry leaders, policymakers, and international stakeholders for discussions, exhibitions, and networking opportunities. It focused on India’s manufacturing capabilities and innovative approaches to grow the sector, aligning with the vision of connecting the entire value chain from farms to foreign markets.
