Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the 7th edition of the Bihar Khelo India Youth Games 2025 via a video message. He emphasized that his government has fostered a sports culture in India, with Khelo India serving as a crucial platform for nurturing young athletes.
Over 1,000 Khelo India centers have been established across the country, providing opportunities for emerging sports talent, especially from rural regions. Modi highlighted the inclusion of traditional sports like Gatka, Kalaripayattu, and Kho Kho in this initiative, making it a more inclusive space for young players.
The Prime Minister discussed India’s plans to host the Olympics in 2036, showcasing the nation’s growing sports talents. He mentioned how sports contribute to various sectors, including self-employment, education, and health, stressing their multifaceted benefits.
One notable athlete, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a vibrant cricketer from Bihar, was praised for his inspiring journey. Modi noted that events like the Khelo India Games not only develop athletic skills but also promote unity, encapsulated in the idea of "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat."
He also encouraged athletes visiting Bihar to enjoy local cuisine, specifically Litti Chokha. Modi commended the Bihar government for its initiatives, such as the International Sports Complex in Rajgir and the state’s first sports university.
Interestingly, sports participation at a young age has proven to improve life skills and foster community connections. A recent survey by the Sports Authority of India found that 70% of youth involved in sports reported higher self-esteem and teamwork skills. These findings underscore the importance of initiatives like Khelo India, as they pave the way for a brighter future in sports and personal development.
