Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. These initiatives are part of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), covering a significant 82 kilometers from Delhi to Meerut. During the event, Modi took a ride on the Metro to showcase its capabilities.
The Namo Bharat Train stands out with a design speed of 180 km/h, linking key urban areas such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut. One of the stations, Sarai Kale Khan, is a central point for this corridor.
In addition, the Meerut Metro operates on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat, making it a unique project in India. The metro can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h, allowing travel across the entire stretch in just 30 minutes, including stops.
This integrated system aims to enhance both intercity and intra-city travel, setting a new standard for public transport in Indian cities. It aligns with the government’s broader vision to improve infrastructure and connectivity across the region.
During the launch, PM Modi also announced development projects worth approximately 12,930 crores, emphasizing their role in advancing Uttar Pradesh and the nation as a whole. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the positive impact these projects will have on the local population.
