PM Modi Launches Varanasi-Khajuraho Vande Bharat Train: Celebrating Indian Innovation with Three New Routes

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Varanasi–Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express from Varanasi Junction. This marks yet another step forward in India’s efforts to expand its high-speed rail network. Alongside this venture, he also unveiled three other Vande Bharat trains connecting Firozpur to Delhi, Lucknow to Saharanpur, and Ernakulam to Bengaluru.

Modi emphasized that this initiative isn’t just about adding new trains; it’s about transforming Indian Railways. He proudly stated, “Vande Bharat is a train made by Indians, for Indians.” This development underlines the importance of infrastructure in a country’s growth. Modi pointed out that developed nations thrive on strong infrastructure, and India is making significant strides in this direction.

In his speech, he highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of the new routes. “Pilgrimage sites have always connected our collective consciousness,” he noted. The new connections between places like Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Haridwar are not just about travel; they symbolize the unity of India’s diverse traditions and faiths.

The atmosphere at Varanasi Junction during the launch was vibrant, with over 400 eager passengers boarded for the first ride. As Modi waved the green flag, chants of “Har Har Mahadev” filled the air, marking this event as particularly special. It was notable that this was Modi’s first time flagging off a train from Varanasi.

With these additions, India now boasts over 160 Vande Bharat trains, enhancing the speed and efficiency of rail travel across the nation. This modernization not only connects heritage sites but also fosters economic development in the regions served by these trains. A growing number of travelers and students are expressing excitement about the enhanced connectivity and convenience offered by the Vande Bharat network.

In 2022, a survey by the Indian Railways found that nearly 80% of passengers appreciated the speed and comfort of Vande Bharat trains, showing a clear shift in public opinion towards modern rail travel. This evolution in transportation reflects broader changes in India’s approach to infrastructure and connectivity.

This ambitious project is backed by experts who believe that improved rail systems can significantly boost tourism, economy, and social connections in India. As these new trains roll out, they’re not just a means of transport; they’re shaping the future of travel in India, weaving together the threads of history, culture, and modernity.
