Recently, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and Textiles Minister, Giriraj Singh, visited the Brands of India Pavilion at Bharat Tex 2025 in New Delhi. This pavilion, organized by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), highlighted over 40 leading apparel brands, showcasing the strength of India’s domestic textile industry.
The CMAI also spotlighted more than 100 small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in areas like Apparel & Fashion, Textiles & Fabrics, and Start-up & Innovation. This inclusion emphasizes the association’s commitment to strengthening India’s textile ecosystem.
A key part of the event was the launch of the SU.RE website, aimed at promoting sustainable practices in the industry. This initiative was developed in partnership with the United Nations and the Centre for Environment Education (CEE). The goal is to foster collaboration among brands, manufacturers, policymakers, and sustainability experts to build a more resilient and eco-friendly future for Indian fashion.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi stated, “Today, we are the sixth largest textile exporter in the world. Our textile exports have reached three lakh crores of rupees. Now, our target is to take it to nine lakh crores by 2030.” His confidence in the industry’s potential was clear as he expressed hope that the target could be met earlier than planned.
Santosh Katariya, President of CMAI, emphasized the importance of sustainability and innovation, stating, “It is a moment of immense pride for CMAI to present the Brands of India Pavilion. The attendance of our Prime Minister and Minister of Textiles underscores the government’s support for the apparel sector, which is crucial for economic growth.”
Chief Mentor Rahul Mehta highlighted CMAI’s role in the event, noting that it provided an essential platform for industry leaders and emerging brands to connect. He mentioned various initiatives such as INDIAsize and the SU.RE program that drive policy changes and promote sustainable practices.
The Brands of India Pavilion showcased a diverse range of notable Indian brands such as Allen Solly, American Eagle, Biba, Sabyasachi, and Tommy Hilfiger, highlighting the strong presence of Indian manufacturers in the market.
