PM Narendra Modi Declares Vande Bharat: A Transformative Symbol of Indian Railways Connecting India’s Heart and Soul – The Times of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated four new Vande Bharat trains, including one route from Varanasi to Khajuraho. He emphasized that these trains symbolize a major shift in Indian Railways, linking important spiritual and heritage sites across the country.

During the flag-off event at Banaras railway station, Modi highlighted how the Vande Bharat trains promote religious tourism. He stated, “These journeys connect pilgrims to the heart of India.” Key destinations like Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Haridwar, and Khajuraho are now more accessible, showcasing the blend of India’s culture and development.

Since taking office, the government has invested significantly in infrastructure. In the past decade, Uttar Pradesh has seen remarkable growth in pilgrimage tourism. Modi noted that in 2024, over 11 crore visitors came to Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Dham alone. Similarly, Ayodhya welcomed over 6 crore tourists since the consecration of Ram Lalla, greatly boosting the local economy. This influx has created new opportunities in hotels, trade, and transport, empowering local youth to start their own businesses.

The introduction of the Vande Bharat trains—now totaling over 160—is essential for modernizing Indian Railways. Modi argued that robust infrastructure can drive economic growth, comparing India’s strides to those of more developed nations.

The new trains will significantly cut travel times. For example, the Banaras-Khajuraho route will save about 2 hours and 40 minutes compared to existing services, enhancing access to major cultural sites. Similarly, the Lucknow-Saharanpur service will reduce travel time by nearly an hour, benefiting several towns along the route.

In Punjab, the Firozpur-Delhi Vande Bharat has become the fastest train on its path, taking just 6 hours and 40 minutes. This will further integrate border regions into national markets, enhancing trade and tourism.

In Southern India, the Ernakulam-Bengaluru train will decrease travel time by over 2 hours, connecting significant commercial hubs. This will support economic growth and foster collaboration between states.

The Vande Bharat trains are not just a transportation upgrade; they reflect India’s commitment to modernization, tourism, and economic development. As these trains continue to operate, they promise to transform how people travel across India, showcasing the country’s rich heritage and vibrant culture.
