Pope Francis, age 88, has faced a challenging health situation after being hospitalized for pneumonia in both lungs. This past Friday, he experienced another respiratory crisis, raising fresh concerns about his recovery. The Vatican reported that Pope Francis suffered a bronchial spasm that led him to inhale his own vomit following a coughing fit, resulting in a worsening of his respiratory condition that required medical intervention.
This incident occurred after a morning of respiratory therapy and prayer. Thankfully, he did not require intubation, and remained alert and aware during the episode. The doctors indicated that it would take roughly 24 to 48 hours to assess the full impact of this crisis on his health.
Currently, Pope Francis is using a breathing mask, a method he has used during his hospital stay. Despite the setbacks, the Vatican mentioned he is cooperating with treatments and is in good spirits. He was initially admitted for bronchitis, which later developed into pneumonia. Although he had a difficult moment last Saturday, medics had been cautiously optimistic about his condition in recent days, stating he was no longer in “critical condition,” though they noted his situation remains complex.
