They are currently attempting to settle claims from approximately 1,300 survivors of clergy abuse, a significant issue within the Catholic Church.
The Archdiocese of New York is also adjusting its budget, cutting 10% in response to the financial strain from these settlements. As Hick’s installation approaches on February 6, 2026, he faces the task of revitalizing a vital institution.
