ROME (AP) — Pope Leo XIV has officially embraced his role as the bishop of Rome. During a special Mass at the St. John Lateran Basilica, he made his commitment clear to the local priests and faithful.

Leo took over after the passing of Pope Francis, the first Latin American pope, who died on April 21 and is buried near a cherished Madonna icon at St. Mary Major.
