Powering India’s Electric Future: How the Indian Charge Point Operators Association (ICPOA) is Leading the EV Charging Revolution

On September 20, 2025, the Indian Charge Point Operators Association (ICPOA) held its annual Bharat EV Charging Conclave in New Delhi. This event gathered key players in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, including Charge Point Operators, manufacturers, and policymakers. Their focus was clear: develop a dependable EV charging network that meets India’s growing electric mobility needs.

ICPOA, a non-profit organization, aims to boost collaboration in the EV industry. Its goal is to create practical policies, promote consumer awareness, and ensure a robust charging infrastructure as India strives for cleaner mobility by 2070.

Awadhesh Kumar Jha, Executive Director of Glida and Chairman of ICPOA, emphasized the importance of charging stations in making EV adoption mainstream. He said, “Charging needs to be seen as essential for the future of mobility in India.” He called for industry collaboration to boost consumer confidence and build a transparent charging network.

At the conclave, discussions covered a range of topics, including policy development, grid integration, and strategies for clean mobility. More than 1.5 million electric vehicles were sold in India in FY2024, indicating a growing acceptance of electric mobility.

Research shows that consumer trust in charging infrastructure is crucial. A recent survey indicated that nearly 70% of potential EV buyers are concerned about the availability of charging stations. This highlights the need for reliable networks, which ICPOA aims to enhance through initiatives like the “Know Your Battery” program.

As India accelerates its electric vehicle adoption, the collaboration between stakeholders becomes increasingly important. The conclave served as a platform for sharing insights and outlining actions necessary for a sustainable future. By uniting businesses, government bodies, and energy providers, the aim is to create an accessible and efficient charging environment nationwide.
