PR Sreejesh and R Ashwin Honored with Prestigious Padma Awards by President Droupadi Murmu

Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin has been honored with the Padma Shri award, one of India’s highest civilian awards. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu on April 28 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The Padma Shri ranks fourth among India’s civilian honors, following the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan.

Another notable recipient this year is PR Sreejesh, the retired Indian hockey goalkeeper, who received the Padma Bhushan. He had a remarkable career, winning Olympic medals in both Tokyo and Paris, before retiring after the bronze victory in Paris.

On the eve of Republic Day, on January 25, both Ashwin and football legend IM Vijayan were also recognized with the Padma Shri award. Meanwhile, Sreejesh was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

Sreejesh made a striking appearance, wearing a traditional silk shirt and mundu, as his family cheered him on at the ceremony. Ashwin, clad in a navy blue suit, greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah before accepting his award from the President.
