Prepare for a Snowy Surprise: Chicago Set to Receive Up to 10 Inches This Saturday!

Hey Chicago, grab your shovels! A big snowstorm is heading our way this Saturday. For the first time in nearly five years, we could see over 6 inches of snow, and some areas might even get more than 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected to start early Saturday morning and will get heavier as the day goes on. It should begin tapering off late Saturday night into Sunday morning. A winter storm warning is in effect from 3 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for the area.

Travel isn’t advised during this time. If you must drive, the National Weather Service suggests keeping an extra flashlight, food, and water in your car just in case of emergencies.

Last year was unusually dry for snow. Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, the city’s main weather reporting station, recorded only 11.9 inches of snowfall last winter. That made it the least snowy season since 1937 and the 10th least snowy on record, according to WGN-TV meteorologist Bill Snyder.

Interestingly, Saturday’s snowstorm will technically count as an autumn event since meteorological winter starts on December 1. Expect colder temperatures to stick around next week, with the possibility of more snow on Monday afternoon.

So, prepare for a snowy weekend and keep those snow shovels handy!
