Prepare for Heavy Rain: BMD Forecasts Downpours in Chittagong and Three Other Divisions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in several regions, including Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet, starting at 9:00 AM on Sunday. Light to moderate showers and thunderstorms, along with gusty winds, are expected in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Dhaka, too.

Temperatures across the country are likely to stay the same over the next few days. The low-pressure area that was over Gangetic West Bengal has weakened and merged with the monsoon axis, which now extends from Rajasthan through to Assam and southern Bangladesh, affecting the weather significantly.

Interestingly, a new low-pressure area is anticipated to form over the northwest Bay in the next two days. Recent data shows that Hatiya, in Chattogram, received the most rain—130 millimeters—within 24 hours until Sunday morning.

Historical weather patterns show that Bangladesh often experiences heavy rainfall during this time of year. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the average rainfall in July can reach over 300 millimeters in some regions. This year’s active monsoon might lead to further unusual weather patterns and could impact agriculture, a sector vital to the country’s economy.

Experts suggest that understanding these weather patterns is crucial for effective preparation and response. With climate change affecting global weather systems, communities need to be ready for more unpredictable weather in the future.
