Prepare for Impact: Indivisible Anticipates Huge ‘No Kings’ Turnout!

This moment sparked the creation of the Chippewa Valley Indivisible group in Wisconsin. What started with 28 people at their first meeting quickly grew to over 1,900 members.

This surge in participation reflects a wider trend. Since last November, the Indivisible movement has grown rapidly, with Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-Executive Director, noting that five to eight new groups form each day across the country, even in less progressive areas.

On October 18, these groups will participate in the “No Kings” protests, expecting attendance to surpass the 5 million who turned out for the past events. Significant gatherings are planned for major cities like Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago. Historically, protests have drawn large crowds, but the potential turnout this time may set records for modern America. Experts have compared this mobilization to the massive demonstrations during the Black Lives Matter movement, which spanned several days but not in a single rally.

The current political climate is tense. Congress is facing a government shutdown, and Trump has ordered National Guard deployments in defiance of local officials. Amid rising arrests and clashes, a mix of frustration and determination is driving activists. Democrats are also feeling the heat from their own base, which has criticized their leaders for not taking a stronger stance.

After a disappointing vote by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer this spring, Indivisible called an emergency meeting. An overwhelming 92% of members wanted Schumer to step down. Levin emphasized the importance of unity within the party, especially when confronting the current administration’s actions.

Recent threats to free speech, including Trump’s suggestion to investigate liberal groups, have galvanized even more support for protests. Levin wants to remind Democratic leaders that they must stand firm. “The cavalry is coming on October 18,” he stated, urging them to show genuine leadership.

Meanwhile, some Republicans are labeling these protests as violent gatherings led by extremists. House Speaker Mike Johnson and others claim that the demonstrations feed into the government’s shutdown plans. These accusations, however, have sparked backlash from Democrats. Senator Chris Murphy pointed out that attempting to suppress free speech only fuels the protest movement more fiercely.

As the date approaches, the buzz on social media reflects growing anticipation. Activists are sharing plans and rallying community support. Participants see these marches not just as protests but as a chance to voice their hopes for change.
