Prepare for Winter’s Return: Blustery Snow and Ice-Cold Temperatures Set for GTA This Friday

Residents in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are preparing for a significant winter weather event this Friday. Environment Canada has issued warnings about strong winds, biting cold, and even frostbite risks.

Starting Friday night and lasting into Saturday morning, officials predict wind chills between -30°C to -35°C. Some areas may see similar conditions return overnight on Saturday. In Halton Region, a separate alert warns of reduced visibility due to snow and strong winds.

By Friday evening, the GTA could receive 4 to 8 centimeters of snow. The cold front moving in is expected to drop temperatures to -19°C, but it may feel as cold as -31°C overnight due to the wind chill.

On Saturday, temperatures will remain low, with morning wind chills around -31°C and afternoon highs feeling like -22°C. Residents should stay indoors when possible and rethink any travel plans.

Experts stress the importance of being prepared. “When temperatures drop, everyone is at risk,” warns Environment Canada. People with chronic illnesses, young children, and seniors should take extra precautions. Always have emergency supplies in your vehicle—like blankets and jumper cables—in case you get stranded.

Cold-related symptoms can sneak up on you. Watch for signs like shortness of breath, chest pain, or changes in the color of your fingers and toes.

To sum it up, bundle up and stay safe. The cold weather can be harsh, but with proper precautions, you can weather this storm.
