Production Gone Awry: Celsius Energy Drink Cans Accidentally Filled with Vodka!

US authorities are alerting consumers to check their cans of Celsius energy drinks after some were mistakenly filled with vodka. This warning comes from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition.

The issue arose when a packaging supplier accidentally shipped empty Celsius cans to the vodka company High Noon. High Noon then filled these cans with alcohol. They are also recalling specific Beach Variety packs that came from the same production line. So far, no illnesses or negative incidents have been reported.

The recall affects two production lots that were detailed on the FDA’s website. These products made their way to retailers in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin between July 21 and July 23.

Consumers with affected cans should look for the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1, along with the lot codes printed on the bottom of the cans. The relevant lot codes for Celsius are:

• L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11

High Noon packs included in the recall can be identified by the retail code UPC 085000040065, with lot codes:

• L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59
• L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00

The FDA advises consumers to throw away the affected Celsius cans and not to drink from them. Other High Noon packs with different lot codes are safe to consume.

Mix-ups like this are rare but not unheard of. In recent years, there have been other product recalls due to labeling or packaging errors. For instance, in 2021, a popular snack brand had to recall products that contained undeclared allergens. Such incidents highlight the importance of food safety protocols and consumer awareness.
