Protester Assaulted Outside Capitol: Tarrio Arrested – What You Need to Know

Enrique Tarrio, former leader of the Proud Boys, found himself in trouble again just a month after being pardoned by President Trump. He was arrested on charges of assaulting a protester during a news conference outside the Capitol.

The incident happened when a protester kept interrupting him by blowing a whistle and shouting insults. In the heat of the moment, Tarrio swiped at the woman’s arm as she held her cellphone close to his face, which led to his arrest for simple assault.

This was a surprising turn of events for Tarrio. Only recently pardoned, he was now taken into custody outside the same Capitol building that was the target of the January 6 attack, an event that had already seen many of his associates imprisoned. The Capitol Police, who faced violence from the mob that day, were the ones who arrested him.

Before the pardon, Tarrio had been serving a 22-year sentence for seditious conspiracy, stemming from a trial in Washington two years ago. His co-defendants, who also attended the news conference, did not engage in any confrontations that day.

The event was part of Tarrio’s push to share his version of the January 6 incident while he was in Washington for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Along with his fellow group members, he attempted to downplay their actions during the Capitol riot, instead blaming the police for the chaos and claiming their trial was unfair.

When a reporter asked co-defendant Dominic Pezzola about his actions during the riot—specifically, using a stolen police shield to break a window—he dismissed the idea that his actions contributed to the chaos, stating the police were the ones who escalated the events that day.
