On April 16, 2025, the Dominican University New York softball team faced off against the Purple Knights from the University of Bridgeport in a doubleheader at DUNY Softball Field. Unfortunately, the Lady Chargers did not come away with a win, losing both games with scores of 10-6 and 10-3.
In the first game, Bridgeport jumped ahead quickly, scoring two runs in the first two innings. Dominican managed to cut into the lead with a run in the second inning, thanks to a fielding error by Bridgeport. However, it was not enough. By the fifth inning, the Purple Knights had built a hefty 9-1 lead. The Chargers rallied in the sixth inning, scoring five runs, highlighted by shortstop Chloe McIntosh’s clutch double that brought in two runs. Despite this effort, Bridgeport added one more run in the seventh, sealing the game at 10-6. McIntosh ended the game with two RBIs.
The second game started similarly, with Bridgeport scoring three runs right away. Dominican fought back, getting one run from Adriana Barnes’ RBI single. But the Purple Knights continued to pull away, scoring more runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. In the final moment of the game, the Lady Chargers put together a late push, scoring two runs, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome, ending the game at 10-3. Barnes had a noteworthy performance with two RBIs, while McIntosh added two hits.
The losses dropped Dominican’s overall record to 14-25, with a conference record of 9-9. This sequence of games highlights the challenges teams face in competitive settings. According to recent statistics, teams that can effectively adapt mid-game often have a better chance of turning things around. An expert in sports psychology notes that mental resilience is just as crucial as physical skills in these moments. “The team’s mindset can shift the momentum,” they say. “Harnessing positive energy, even in tough situations, can lead to unexpected results.”
As the Lady Chargers head to their next game against Georgian Court University, they look to regroup and channel their recent experiences into a stronger performance. In sports, every game is a lesson, and with their evident potential, the Chargers have the opportunity to improve and bounce back.
