The meeting will start with a one-on-one conversation between Putin and Trump, followed by more extensive discussions over lunch. Notably, Ukraine and European leaders were not invited, raising concerns about the implications for Kyiv.

In the days leading up to the summit, European leaders reached out to Trump, stressing the need for a prompt ceasefire and insisting that Ukraine be included in future discussions. Their cautious optimism suggests that they hope for a positive outcome from the summit.

This situation isn’t entirely new. Similar tensions and negotiations have unfolded in the past with varying results. According to a 2022 survey by the Pew Research Center, 74% of Americans believe that U.S.-Russia relations are poor, highlighting the ongoing struggle for diplomatic balance.
