Doha recently saw the launch of the State of the Environment Report for Qatar 2025, led by Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie. This report examines Qatar’s environmental condition, noting both challenges and successes, while outlining priorities for the future.
Through a careful assessment, the report highlights the connections between environmental, economic, and social factors. It also addresses crucial topics like environmental governance and sustainable development. The goal is to improve integrated planning efforts that can benefit everyone.
Dr. Al Subaie emphasized that the report is part of a broader effort to enhance transparency. By making environmental data readily available, the Ministry hopes to boost public awareness and encourage participation in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. This initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which focuses on environmental protection and sustainable growth.
The report aims to support decision-makers by guiding policies and updating national plans. It serves as a valuable reference for preparing reports related to environmental commitments at various levels. With contributions from nearly 80 experts and academics, the report drew from about a year of research and analysis.
Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, the Ministry’s undersecretary, noted that this report is a major tool for understanding environmental changes from 2021 to 2024. It provides clear data and indicators across several environmental dimensions, aiding in monitoring and coordination among different governmental bodies.
The report has been designed to streamline processes, ensuring that environmental responsibilities are clearly defined and met.
Director of the Technical Office, Eng. Hussein Saad Al Kubaisi, remarked that this edition builds on the 2021 report, offering an updated analysis backed by precise data. It covers significant topics, including biodiversity, air quality, climate change, marine health, water resources, and waste management.
This report followed rigorous standards set by the United Nations Environment Programme, ensuring a thorough examination of driving factors, existing conditions, impacts, and necessary responses.
Public engagement has played a vital role in developing this report. The Ministry hosted a workshop last September that included 25 departments from 13 national entities, fostering collaboration and input from various stakeholders.
