Amidst the chaos, someone in the restaurant shouted, “Oh my god, it’s a grown man and a kid. Where are the police?” The man then appeared to put a female student in a chokehold.
Footage also shows a police officer rushing toward the confrontation, but it’s unclear what action was taken as the struggle continued. Other students began to intervene, hitting the man, and soon he fell to the ground with the girl.
One voice in the video exclaimed, “He’s on a child. Why is no one stopping him?” This highlights the sense of urgency and fear felt by those witnessing the incident.
Afterward, the man was seen speaking to police and leaving in an unmarked white vehicle with flashing lights. Bloodied signs were scattered on the ground, adding to the disturbing visuals.
Witnesses described the scene as “extremely jarring.” One reported, “These men were twice the size of these children. It seems like the police made absolutely no effort to de-escalate the situation.”
The next day, outside the police station, it was revealed that several students arrested during the protest were still in custody. At a press conference, a woman named Allison expressed her concern for her stepdaughter, who she claimed was wrongly accused, assaulted, and held in a chokehold. “We just want her home safe,” Allison said, calling for respect for all the students involved.
