The question of which Quentin Tarantino film is the best has sparked many debates. Recently, Tarantino himself shared his views on the topic during an appearance on The Church of Tarantino podcast.
He believes his 2009 movie, Inglourious Basterds, stands out as his best work. “I think it’s my masterpiece,” he stated. However, when it comes to personal favorites, he leans towards Once Upon a Time in Hollywood from 2019. For him, Kill Bill represents the ultimate Tarantino film, capturing his unique vision and creativity. “It’s all from my imagination and my obsessions,” he explained.
Tarantino has consistently written and directed his films since his debut with Reservoir Dogs in 1992. He values Inglourious Basterds not only for its storytelling but also as a strong screenplay, alongside Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
Interestingly, he won’t be directing the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Instead, he passed the directing responsibilities to David Fincher for The Adventures of Cliff Booth. “David Fincher and I are two of the best directors,” Tarantino remarked, appreciating Fincher’s dedication to his work.
He also hinted at a new project—a play set to debut in London’s West End in 2026—before focusing on his final film. Tarantino has pledged to retire after his tenth movie, believing that many directors produce unsatisfactory last works.
Much speculation surrounded his planned film, The Movie Critic, but he decided to scrap it, feeling it was too similar to his previous projects. “I wasn’t really excited about it,” he confessed. He aims for his final film to venture into uncharted territory, rather than retracing familiar steps.
Tarantino’s unique cinematic style often elicits strong reactions from fans. His films blend nostalgia with vibrant storytelling, inspiring passionate discussions on social media. Recent online polls indicate that Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill remain fan favorites, showcasing the filmmaker’s widespread impact.
As he prepares for his exit from filmmaking, audiences are left wondering how he will wrap up his storied career. The anticipation continues to grow for his next—and last—project.
