The Murray State Racers secured an impressive 3-1 victory against the Evansville Purple Aces in their recent game in Evansville, Indiana. This win places the Racers sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference, closely followed by the Aces in seventh.
The game started with Evansville getting ahead first. They scored on a bases-loaded walk in the opening inning. But the Racers soon turned the tide. Relief pitcher Bre Haislip came in strong, ending the inning with her first strikeout.
In the second inning, the Racers kicked into gear. Kenley Minor made an exciting play, stealing home to score the team’s first run. Shortly after, Kynadee Warner hit a single that brought Katy Huels home, putting the Racers in the lead. They continued to build on this momentum in the third inning when Parker Holcombe’s single scored Bailey Broemmer, making it 3-1.
From then on, both teams’ relief pitchers held strong, preventing any further runs from being scored. Haislip had an outstanding performance, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three batters.
At the plate, Holcombe stood out, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Allie Waldron had a great day as well, getting three hits, including a double. Warner also contributed with 2-for-4, scoring an RBI.
Interestingly, the Racers outhit the Aces 8-2 but left 12 runners on base, showcasing both their potential and the need for improvement. The Aces committed one error during the game, while Murray State played error-free ball.
Looking ahead, the Racers will face the Belmont Bruins in Nashville in a doubleheader on March 24. This will be a great chance for Murray State to continue building on their recent success.
